Every time one of the major smartphone players releases a new flagship, it’s pretty much a given that we’ll be introduced to at least one new technological benchmark. And that’s certainly the case with Sony’s new Xperia 1 III, as it’s the first smartphone to boast a 4K OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate.
The bonkers display makes the phone ideal not only for gamers and those who like to consume media on their phones, but also professional photographers and cinematographers. And it was with those professions in mind that Sony crafted the outstanding camera system for the Xperia 1 III. The phone’s four-lens triple camera borrows tech from the company’s industry-leading Alpha series of digital cameras, and it shows. The phone’s cameras feature Zeiss T* coating to reduce reflections, fast and accurate Continuous Autofocus driven by Dual PDAF sensors, and a legitimate telephoto lens that switches between 70mm and 105mm. There’s also real-time tracking, 20fps burst shooting, and real-time eye AF that works not just with humans but also animals like dogs, cats, and even birds. This is as much of a professional production tool as it is a phone, and while Sony hasn’t said how much it will cost yet, you can expect it to be priced as such.
