Sony SL Series Ultra-Tough External SSDs

When you’re a creator, it can be difficult to find a media storage system that can stand up to the daily wear and tear that often plagues your gear. While other companies have spent their time developing standalone devices that can operate under minimal external influence, Sony has been conceptualizing an ultra-durable SSD that’s aimed to fill the void for those who are always on-the-go with the all-new SL-M and SL-C drives.

Both of the newly introduced drives are tailor-made for creators who are looking for a tough, durable solution for their daily data and media transfer needs. Both the larger SL-M and smaller SL-C are the recipients of a dust-, impact-, water-, and shock-proof design, allowing them to read and write at speeds of up to 1000MB/s in some of the most challenging environments on Earth. The SSD’s innovative design comes courtesy of Sony’s one-piece aluminum body and omnidirectional shock-proof construction, as well as an IP67 rating that ensures adequate waterproof protection without the need for a sealing cap. If you’re worried about the drive becoming damaged, dented, or dinged by your mil-spec outdoor gear, don’t fret — it can withstand pressures of up to 6000kgf (and even bending pressures of up to 2000kgf) — and can even survive falls of up to 9 feet. Both drives will sport a USB 3.1 Gen 2 (USB Type-C) connector that makes the transition of 4K material a breeze, while hardware encryption and intelligent hardware security software protect your precious assets from tampering. Pricing for the new ultra-durable drives hasn’t been released, but they are slated to launch in the summer of 2019.
