With efficiency increasing and production costs declining, it’s frankly unsurprising that the electric motorcycle industry is seeing an influx in startups, only matched by the number of manufacturers to spring up a little over a century ago upon the debut of the petrol-powered motorcycle. And while the last six months alone have seen the debut of numerous electric motorcycles and ebikes, few have caught our attention quite like SONDORS forthcoming Metacycle.
After already launching a range of electric bicycles, the Los Angeles-based EV outfit is now expanding its reach in the electric vehicle realm with the addition of a three-wheeled commuter car, a new premium e-bicycle, and the aforementioned Metacycle. Utilizing a cast aluminum frame design similar to the Novus ebike from early 2019, the fully-electric two-wheeler is powered by a 14.5kW, hub-mounted PMAC motor drawing from a 72V, 4,000Wh Lithium-ion battery that ultimately affords a range of at least 80 miles, an 80mph top speed, and as much as 130ft-lbs of torque. Weighing just 200lbs, the Metacycle also boasts a manageable 31.5” seat height, LED lighting throughout, top-shelf WP suspension front and back, and sticky Michelin Road 5 Tires. Scheduled for a launch in Q4 of 2021, the SONDORS Metacycle starts at $5,000, though can be reserved today via a $100 deposit.
