Smithsonian Magazine’s 12th Annual Photo Contest Finalists
With apologies to that picture of a chicken parm sub you posted on Facebook last week, we have found some examples of truly beautiful photography. Smithsonian.com has unveiled the finalists in its 12th Annual Photo Contest, and you’re gonna wanna set aside 10 minutes to maximize your browser and look these over.
There’s an amazing close-up of a snake eating a frog in Costa Rica; an elevated and dramatic setting for a cemetery in Hong Kong; a great angle inside the massive National Library of China; some great shots in Vietnam and Myanmar; fireworks in Oregon, and much more. The finalists were whittled down from more than 26,500 entries, with photographers from 93 different countries taking part. The 10 categories are Natural World, Travel, People, Americana, Altered Images and Mobil. The winner of the Readers’ Choice award gets a $500 cash prize. [Smithsonian]
