In 1977 Jake Burton Carpenter founded Burton snowboards, ultimately serving as the catalyst for the now bustling sport and industry. Sadly, in late 2019 Jake succumbed to a prolonged battle with cancer and passed away, though Carpenter and his indelible mark on snowboarding are now being honored via a special edition watch and board replica capsule collaboration between Burton and American watchmaker, Shinola.
Created with input and help from Jake’s close circle of friends and family, this special edition commemorative gift set is anchored by a limited edition version of Shinola’s Duck surf watch with an Alpine-themed dial with Burton and Shinola branding, and a case-back with an embossed image of an early snowboarder. The gift set also includes a hardbound coffee table photography book and a full-scale replica of Burton’s first production snowboard, the “BB1.” The JBC Duck watch also comes in a limited edition leather Burton bag that doubles as a cooler — inspired by Jake’s idea to package snowboard boots in a reusable backpack cooler bag rather than in cardboard boxes. Available now in limited numbers, the Shinola x Burton JBC Duck Watch Gift Set is priced at $1,200.
