Audio technology has witnessed enormous strides and technological advancements over the last century or so, and one pioneering brand that’s been present throughout much of this time is Sennheiser. Originally founded in 1945, the German audio outfit has consistently been an innovator in its space, remaining at the forefront of the industry for some three-quarters of a century. And with 2020 marking the 75th year since the company’s inception, Sennheiser is marking the occasion via a limited run of special edition HD 800 S headphones.
Assembled by hand in Germany, the Sennheiser HD 800 S Anniversary Edition is a special version of the audiophile-grade, reference-class headphone model that was first released in 2015. Equipped with the German brand’s “Ring Radiator” transducer system, a 103dB sensitivity, a 4 – 51,000 Hz frequency response, and an impedance of 300. Each unit features a serialized metal plaque set in the top of the headband, denoting every example’s production number. The special edition version also gets a unique gold colorway. Limited to just 750 units in total, the Sennheiser HD 800 S Anniversary Edition is priced at $1,700.
