Prior to the launch of at-home consoles, video game arcades experienced a golden age in the ‘80s and ‘90s, with a number of legendary cabinets and games forever leaving their mark on the industry and emerging sub-culture. First released in 1993, one such cabinet was the Astro City, which is now being celebrated with the release of a 1/6 scale console version of the ‘90s arcade icon.
Produced by Sega, the Astro City Mini comes preloaded with 36 legendary video game titles, including Alien Syndrome, Alien Storm, Altered Beast, Beast King, Fantasy Zone, Golden Axe, Columns II, Dark Edge, Puzzle & Action: Tant-R, Tantoar, and Virtua Fighter. Boasting resin construction, the console utilizes HDMI inputs and is powered via USB. The Astro City Mini is operated via a built-in joystick and six buttons (plus the “Start” and “Select” buttons), however, there’s also an optional controller pad (for approximately $26) that allows some titles to be enjoyed by two players. The Sega Astro City Mini is scheduled for a release at the very end of 2020, with preorders currently available at the link below for around $126.
