Seashore Library by Vector Architects
We never thought that you could improve on something as simple and satisfying as reading a book on the beach, but somehow the Chinese firm Vector Architects has managed to make a good thing even better. Located about three hours outside of Beijing, this gorgeous seashore library makes for the ultimate beachside browsing.
This concrete, glass, and wood structure is designed to let in the natural light and wind of the beach into it’s large multi-tiered reading room through massive glass windows, doors, and small porthole sunlights. The library doors can also open up to the to the beach, letting the sound and the smell of the ocean move through the structure. It’s impressive to see a brutalist structure complement its natural surroundings so seamlessly – now all we have to do is buy some tickets to China.
