Finding a utility knife-style bike that is good for all terrains, conditions, and riding disciplines can be a tough challenge, with some riders spending a lifetime searching for a mythical whip that never really arrives. Advances in materials, suspension, and geometry, however, have brought the cycling industry closer than ever to this epic pinnacle of bike design. Take a look at the Saracen’s 2018 Ariel LT and you’ll see what we mean.

Carbon fiber used to be a dirty word in the aggressive mountain bike world, but huge improvements in the material joining techniques have ushered in a new wave of fully capable and feather light trail shredders. The Ariel LT is built on a full carbon front and rear triangle, with internal cable routing and accommodations for Shimano’s Di2 electronic drivetrains. Fox Shox supplies the cushion for the 165mm travel all mountain bike, with a 36 Float Factory fork up front and Float X2 air shock in the rear. Shimano covers the drivetrain and braking components with a blend of SLX and XT grade pieces from tip to tail. Lastly a dropper seatpost from TranzX ensures that your saddle will be at just the right height, whether assaulting a beastly climb or ravaging a tasty rock garden.

Purchase: $7,100
