Since 1950, Formula One has been the world’s most elite and prestigious single-seater auto racing series, representing the absolute pinnacle of four-wheeled performance. In its storied near-70-year history, F1 has spawned countless race legends and some of the best competition stories of all time, many of which have become household names. The renowned auction house, RM Sotheby’s, is celebrating the recent history of this illustrious series with a new, online-only auction boasting some of the most cherished and valuable F1 memorabilia of the last three decades.
Being held from November 22nd to December 2nd, 2019, the ongoing sale primarily focuses on the eras between the late 1980s and early 2000s and includes everything from model cars to full-on F1 V12 engines. There’s also a bevy of spoilers, wings, and other authentic F1 body panels on offer, plus number boards, steering wheels, and more. The sale also includes a wide array of genuine used race helmets and suits from the likes of Michael Schumacher, Felipe Massa, Mark Webber, and Mika Hakkinen. Quite possibly the most noteworthy lots available are the handful of various Ayrton Senna items, including the legendary Brazilian driver’s McLaren Honda helmet (signed), gloves, and suit from the 1988 season, as well as his gloves and steering wheel from the ’86 series, his ’94 Williams Renault suit, and no-less-than a dozen scale replica race cars.
