Especially if you lived through the original video game boom, there’s never been a better time to revisit old-school consoles, as more than ever before are getting handy plug-and-play recreations. Now, a bit of a dark horse has entered the space in the form of Retro Games’ THEA500 Mini, a modern redux of Commodore’s Amiga 500 home PC.
While it certainly looks the part, this isn’t simply a re-release of the original console. Rather, this one offers 25 built-in classic games — like Alien Breed, Chaos Engine, Simon the Sorcerer, and Worms — perfectly emulated to mimic the original, with an upgrade in the graphical department more ala the A1200. Furthermore, you can add your own game ROMs with a USB input, it offers static saving (so you don’t have to finish a game in one sitting), and includes both a two-button mouse and an 8-button gamepad. This retro redux will be released by early 2022, although pricing has yet to be officially unveiled.
