Although most automotive-themed timepieces are, admittedly, pretty kitschy affairs, REC Watches is one brand that breaks from the trend. With each of its offerings, the Danish outfit incorporates a combination of salvaged parts with incredible attention to detail, resulting in pieces that gracefully honor their influences whilst still standing apart as something unique unto their own.
For its latest creation, REC has worked with ARKONIK on a limited-edition variant of the RNR. Crafted using a dial sourced from the original right-hand door of the latter’s 1984 Land Rover Defender ‘UJO’ build, it features all of the marks and dents acquired over the off-roader’s lifetime. And that’s not all; the watch also comes with a 316L stainless steel case shaped like a Defender headlight, a crown guard inspired by the grille, as well as a caseback meant to mimic the 4×4’s alloy wheels. Add to that a Sellita SW290-1 automatic movement, a durable sapphire crystal, and a matching quick-release rubber strap, and the result is a rare opportunity to own a piece of iconic British automobilia. Limited to just 302 watches in total, it’s available for $1,395.
