It’s not often that car roof boxes are tested in wind tunnels for aerodynamic efficiency, but then again, it’s not every day that Porsche makes a roof box. The German auto marque’s Porsche Tequipment division has announced the new Performance Roof Box for the Taycan Cross Turismo wagon, and it’s just as sleek and capable as its mount.
The Porsche Tequipment Performance Roof Box has been comprehensively tested for speeds up to 200 km/h (124 mph), ensuring that it will perform admirably as you zip your Taycan Cross Turismo to your next adventure. The designers of the roof box approached the project like they would a car, beginning first with a clay model before moving on to prototypes that were submitted to rigorous trials in wind tunnels and on test tracks, including the rough-road track at the Porsche Development Centre in Weissach. The main focus of the tests was to see how the box affected the car’s handling at high speeds, and needless to say, it passed with flying colors. Speaking of colors, the Performance Roof Box can be outfitted with optional side blades that are color-matched to your car. It also boasts a storage capacity of 480 liters and can be opened from both sides for ease of access. The Performance Roof Box will go on sale from Porsche later in May, starting around $1,380.
