If you find yourself with money burning a hole in your pocket and you’re after the ultimate price-is-no-object Porsche, you’d be hard-pressed to go with a better option than Gunther Werks’ 400R. By combining race-inspired engineering with a retro-futuristic aesthetic, it makes for a restomod that even the most discerning of air-cooled aficionados can appreciate.
With the announcement of the 993 Speedster Remastered, Gunther Werks is taking the veritable 400R platform and giving it a drop-top makeover. Because of the nature of the redesign, the Huntington Beach-based outfit has had to make significant modifications to the car, with the rear seats being ditched in favor of a new carbon fiber top and tonneau cover, as well as a roll-cage and hoop unit being added to improve chassis stiffness. And that’s not all — elsewhere, you’ll find a carbon fiber front spoiler for improved aerodynamics, a single-skin hood for reduced weight, as well as a ducktail rear wing for some serious retro-inspired cool. At this point, Gunther Werks has yet to share the exact engine details, but we do know that it’ll come in more powerful than the hardtop’s 435hp and 335lb-ft of torque figures.
