One can’t honestly talk about media or pop-culture in the latter half of the 20th century without referencing Playboy. The publication, founded in 1953, was on the forefront of the sexual revolution and was long home to some of the best writers of its time. For better or worse – it helped shape the world we live in today. To celebrate that rich history, the publication has released a new compendium dubbed Playboy: The Complete Centerfolds 1953-2016.
Even as Playboy’s influence has waned, the brand and its famous centerfold shots remain iconic. This book published by Chronicle is a survey of all of Playboy’s centerfolds from the last 63 years. In total, the oversized hardback contains 734 nudes, as well as a new essay from prize-winning journalist Elizabeth Wurtzel and re-published pieces from other famed writers. So, yes. You can say you read it for the articles. But really, who are you kidding?
