PhotoMath App Solves Math Problems For You

Those arguments with algebra teachers about why we’ll never use this junk in the real world are nearly as old as math itself. And yet the tests still come, don’t they?  But – and this is big – a new app threatens to turn the tide.

It’s called PhotoMath and it amazingly reads and solves math problems, nearly instantly, by using your phone’s camera. Whether it’s arithmetic expressions, fractions and decimals, powers and roots, or simple linear equations, it all gets done without you “having to show your work,” one of the most dreaded phrases any high schooler can hear. Of course the makers of PhotoMath say the app will let you learn how to solve captured expressions and equations through ‘human like’ solving steps, but we think we’d just learn how to hide our phones better in class.
