For more than 40 years, Pelican has leveraged their very own experience and technology in developing premium protective travel equipment. In the past, these have included the likes of their Air Cases, Storm Cases, Mobile Military Cases, as well as dependable proprietary goods for law enforcement, EMS, and Aviation industries. Recently, however, the brand has taken a step toward developing and releasing consumer goods; drinkware, hard top coolers, soft top coolers, phone and tablet cases, and an all-new bag line. All of which, adhere to the very same integrity Pelican’s been known to exude since 1976.

Fortunately for us, we were able to get out hands on their new Mobile Protect Bag Lineup to see first-hand how the formidable brand – known for their travel solutions – measures up to other bags currently on the market. Needless to say, we weren’t disappointed and were pleased to see for ourselves that these backpacks and duffels measured up to what Bob Shortt, the President of Pelican’s Consumer Division, claims to be, “Pelican’s reputation as the leading manufacturer of durable protective gear.”

As a whole, the all-new Mobile Protect collection features three backpacks and two duffel bags – all boasting various storage capacity. They’re positioned as lightweight travel essentials, purposed to get your gear to its destination without worry. From here, Pelican worked to ensure every item in the collection featured water-resistant DWR coated 1000D nylon for the outer shell as well as durable PU-coated YKK zippers on the pockets. Out of this reliable construction, Pelican made sure each bag in the collection also offered a handful of extra features – in addition to their lifetime warranty – unique to each product’s intended use – outlined in more detail below.

MPB20 Backpack

Outfitted as a reliable daypack, Pelican’s 20L option is the smallest option in the collection but functions as a handy commuter backpack. It comes complete with ballistic nylon coated EVA Impact Zone on the base of the bag to keep things as secure as possible, rubber coated zipper pulls in conjunction with YKK zippers, compression molded EVA shoulder straps for comfortable carry, and 20 liters of storage capacity. An ideal small carry-on backpack, Pelican’s baseline option is sure to fulfill any and all modest traveling needs.

MPB25 Backpack

The second, and slightly larger option, in the collection is Pelican’s MPB25 Backpack. Here, we have a multi-day backpack built from the same water-resistant and durable DWR 1000D nylon that’s present throughout the entire lineup, along with several reflective Pelican logos, a vertical quick access pocket, and a couple side pockets with a Tuck-Away Attachment Loop. Additionally, the MPB25 features a dedicated protective pocket for laptops and tablets, various organization pockets inside the large main compartment, and an adjustable sternum strap to keep things centered as well as distribute some weight off the shoulders.

MPB35 Backpack

Purposed for those extended outdoor or weekend trips, the MPB35 Backpack is the largest of the three Mobile Protect backpacks offered in this new collection. Opening this bag up for ourselves we were amazed to see how much storage capacity this bag actually featured. Additionally, we noticed a handful of organizational pockets inside the 35-liter backpack as well. Ideal for passports, small carry items, wallets, or flashlights, this useful organizational feature was a sure-fire hit with us. Also, we noticed the bag’s unique loop and lock the zipper pull system on both the laptop and media pocket creates a useful barrier to entry, a vertical quick access pocket keeps any day to day gear safe, and a compression molded EVA back panel for both comfort and drop protection.

Capacity: 35L
Weight: 2.43 lbs
Key Features: Internal organization pockets, loop and lock the zipper pull system, compression molded EVA back panel.

MPB40 Duffel

While it’s anatomically correct to call this 40-liter option a duffel, it is worth noting that the MPD40 come equipped with shoulder straps for use as a backpack as well. Out consensus? We found option this fell more in line with a hybrid bag more than anything else. Regardless, with 40 liters of storage space, you’re sure to get your money’s worth out of this bag whether it’s used as a backpack or duffel. Additional features include their loop and lock zipper pull system featured on its external media pockets, ballistic nylon coated and compression molded EVA impact zones on bottom corners, internal organization pockets, padded carry handles, water resistant PU coated YKK zippers, and reflective Pelican logos for good measure.

MPB100 Duffel

By far the largest and most capable offering in the collection, the storage capacity for the MPD100 Duffel is practically unmatched by other rivals in the industry. Meaning, this monstrous yet highly durable “grandaddy” of the Mobile Protect Line boasts 100 liters of storage capacity within its water resistant and a durable DWR coated 1000D nylon outer shell. Additionally, external MOLLE loops keep your gear in check when in transit, internal organization pockets prevent any smaller items from getting lost in the shuffle, and – again – we found their unique loop and lock zipper pull system to come in extra handy on the bag’s external media pockets. Pelican also hooked the MPD100 up with some padded carry handles, as well as a compression molded EVA shoulder strap for enhanced comfort and ballistic nylon coated compression EVA impact zones on the bottom corners – similar to the MPD40 duffel.
