Panerai’s seamless blend of style and heritage knows no bounds, and with each limited-edition watch that the outfit produces, we become more aware of its technical acuity. Its latest model, known as the LAB-ID Carbotech, is no exception.
Instead of relying on traditional watchmaking methods to create the LAB-ID, Panerai has decided to rewrite the rules with a 49mm “Carbotech” composite case, deviating from the norm due to its non-lubricated (and functionally-fused) interior. Inside, a series of finely-crafted carbon fiber layers have been joined together at a controlled temperature, allowing an organic polymer to hold everything in place. To give the Carbotech it’s very own “shine,” Panerai has also opted to include SuperLuminova X-1 for increased legibility at night, as well as enhanced channels of luminance on its inner bezel, logo, bridge, lever, and crown. Only 70 models are slated for release, the first of which will make its debut at the Racing Pulse Phillips auction on December 12 for an approximate $82,800.
