You don’t have to maintain or even own a rugged offroad vehicle in order to indulge in some car-camping off the beaten path. Thanks to the San Francisco-based company Pacific Overland Expedition Vehicle Rentals, all you need to strike out on your own is a little PTO and a plan.

The rental service offers a variety of different adventures for car camping neophytes and pros alike. Users can choose between their pick of either a truck camper or 4×4. Both options include essentials like a cooler or fridge, water storage, lanterns, cooking supplies (food not included), linens, and a rooftop tent. Depending on your preference, you can strike out on the trail with a set date to return the vehicle by, or you can follow your own plan by setting up a one-way through driving trip and leave the vehicle to be picked up. Pacific Overlander doesn’t tell you what to do or how to do it – but they have a wealth of knowledge that they’re more than willing to share with those renting their vehicles.
