Over the past few years, it’s no secret we’ve seen a resurgence in military-inspired gear. And why not? For if there’s ever been a product designed for some of the most hellish terrain and conditions on earth, it’s the gear adorned and purposed by our Armed Forces. This, of course, includes the field watch.

Originally designed as a markable upgrade from the trench watch worn during The Great War, the field watch as we know it first made it into production during the Second World War. The A-11, as it became known, featured a clean black dial, legible white indices, either a nickel or silver case and a one-piece strap. Function over form, this was a no-frills design built to withstand the terrors of the Second World War. It’s no wonder, then, why it’s now referred to as the “watch that won the war.”

Iconic Inspiration

Homage to the Iconic Field Watch

Now, in a valiant effort to pay homage to the traditional field watch and the brave men and women — both past and present — of our Armed Forces, Original Grain is releasing an all-new Military Collection of wood watches constructed from reclaimed military materials.

Each watch is more than just a tribute, it’s a timeless portal back to the first days of the field watch but with a contemporary feel and function.

On the surface, each watch available in the Original Grain Military Collection is more than just a tribute, it’s a living heirloom — a timeless portal back to the first days of the field watch but with a contemporary feel and function to each timepiece. It’s here, where each handcrafted timepiece is carefully built to perfection while harnessing the energy and durability of reclaimed materials that we find military-inspired gear in peak form.

Volition of Valor

Form, Function & Philanthropy

For instance, all the wood elements of each watch — including the brand’s iconic wood dial — come from reclaimed wood ammo crates originally constructed from the likes of Pine, Poplar, and Basswood while vintage camo marks select iterations within the collection. Additionally, these fine patriotic timepieces also come available with straps constructed from olive drab tent canvas, Woodland 5-color flecktarn camo uniforms, and vintage bomber jackets from both WWII and Vietnam eras.

It’s not all reclaimed materials either that go into each carefully crafted watch. For Original Grain, it’s personal experience and valor that’s embedded within each timepiece — Co-Founder Andrew Beltran previously served as a Sgt. in the U.S. Marines prior to opening up shop with his brother back in 2013. Here, his time spent in the Armed Forces directly influenced the design and inspiration for each watch in the Military Collection. Each piece also comes equipped with an extra military surplus strap, strap removal tool, Certificate of Authenticity, and Original Grain dog tags all housed in a distressed wooden display case. And because this wouldn’t be a proper tribute collection without a touch of philanthropy, a portion of the proceeds from each purchase goes toward supporting the families of our nation’s fallen heroes. Available now.

Original Grain is also giving away a complimentary duffel bag with each watch. Limited to the first 50 purchases with the code: OGHCBAG

Purchase: $219+
