Omega is a trusted name within the timekeeping community, providing veteran watch wearers and amateur enthusiasts alike with the chance to own a piece of history. Now, the classic horology company is shifting its focus to one mankind’s greatest achievements — NASA’s Apollo 11 mission, which will celebrate its 50th anniversary this year.
Omega’s 42mm 50th anniversary Speedmaster “Moonwatch” is based on the model originally gifted to the astronauts chosen to helm the milestone mission to the moon in 1969. Following their successful return, the company continued to produce a limited run of the watch until its discontinuation in 1973. The Speedmaster retains the same color and characteristics of the original watch but features a luxurious new 18K Moonshine gold alloy, a Master Chronometer Calibre 3861 movement, and a vertically brushed step dial. The decorative caseback ring of the watch is crafted from a blackened 18K Moonshine gold and utilizes a domed lunar meteorite inlay that represents the factual proportions of both the Earth and the Moon. Details on price have not been released as of yet, but deliveries of the watch are slated to begin in July.
