When Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, and Buzz Aldrin launched from Kennedy Space Center July 16, 1969, part of their trusted precision gear was an Omega Speedmaster. This year marks the 50th anniversary of NASA’s Apollo 11 mission, a historic milestone for mankind worthy of a memorable timekeeper.
Giving a NASA-inspired makeover to one of its most iconic timepieces, Omega crafted a beautiful watch to commemorate our first trip to the Moon. The 42mm stainless steel case has an 18K Moonshine Gold bezel with a bezel ring polished in black ceramic and an omega Ceragold tachymeter scale. It has a special 9 o’clock subdial with a laser-engraved image of Buzz Aldrin touching down on the lunar surface and a laser-engraved astronaut’s footprint on its Naiad Lock casebook. The 18K Moonshine Gold-plated lettering has the following famous quote: “That’s one small step for a man” and “one giant leap for mankind.” The anti-magnetic 50-meter water-resistant watch is powered by the Omega Master Chronometer Calibre 3861. Limited to just 6,969 examples, this watch will be available in July for $9,650.
