With the mercury settling in around the high end of the spectrum here in California, we’ve been perusing some great beach getaways in parts of the world that are probably a bit cooler right now. One stand-out is the offSET Shed House by IS Architects located in the Northern New Zealand town of Gisborne.
Built to reflect the sets of south-facing coastal surf, each of the buildings is offset from the last, allowing for lots of shady space that can easily be closed off when the winter rolls around. Black corrugated steel surrounds the buildings, calling to mind some of the more recent ‘tiny homes’ built from shipping containers, but the bright slats and deck paired with the big open glass doors and windows make for a much more inviting and breezy space than those small spaces. All things said, this building not only ideal for surfers, but for anyone who wants to just get away from the heat and hang by the beach for a while.
