Ever since Virgil Abloh launched Off-White back in 2013, it’s remained at the forefront of mainstream streetwear, immediately recognizable because of its superfluous design elements and trademark brand tagging. With each of its sneaker drops, the Milan-based label continues to go against the grain, often transforming purpose-built performance footwear into an eye-catching anti-utilitarian fashion statement.
For its latest release, the designers at Off-White have turned a pair of cleats into the wild shoes you see before you. Dubbed the ‘Mountain Cleats Sneakers,’ they come heavily inspired by Abloh’s love of soccer, with an unmistakably retro rounded toe, padded tongue and collar, as well as a classy black and white buffed leather upper reminiscent of the Predator cleats of yesteryear. Underneath, there’s off-field traction abounds, with a mix of thick lugs and smaller spiked tread done up in black and gum rubber. And of course, it wouldn’t be Off-White without a zip-tie tag.
