NuDown NuTech Inflatable Jacket
You would think it would be tough to really innovate when it comes to the world of jackets. I mean, a jacket is a jacket, right? Wrong. Introducing the NuDown NuTech, a jacket with a hand pump to adjust the insulation level. You might be thinking that a jacket with inflatable air pockets covering it couldn’t possibly look good, but the NuTech actually looks sleek and stylish — albeit unconventional.
The NuDown NuTech jacket is easy to inflate, and doesn’t require the use of pricey argon canisters (unlike semi-similar jackets). Instead, each vest and jacket uses a pocket-sized hand pump that let’s the wearer pump things up for higher insulation and more warmth, and there’s a release valve for the air when you get too warm (think like a blood pressure cuff’s pump). NuDown estimates that a single pump of air increases warmth by nearly a single degree in Fahrenheit. There are already many NuTech designs by NuDown which the company will be showing at the upcoming Outdoor Retailer Winter Market and SIA Snow Show trade shows in January. The company will be showing three men’s styles and three women’s styles that are scheduled to hit retailers in the Fall 2015, with prices ranging between $400 and $600. [Purchase]
