Earlier this year, former OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei sent the tech industry into a frenzy with the launch of his newest venture known as ‘Nothing.’ At the time of its announcement, the brand’s name couldn’t have been more apt, for it boasted neither actual product designs nor any indication of what its purpose would be. Nothing.
However, with the unveil of the Concept 1 true wireless earphones, it appears Nothing is up to something after all. Well, sort of. Less of a pre-production sneak peek than it is a glimpse of the brand’s design direction, the earphones sport a markedly minimalist form factor Pei says comes inspired by “a grandmother’s tobacco pipe.” At this point, there’s little more than the image you see before you and some clever marketing double-talk, but Nothing has confirmed that it’ll be releasing a similar audio offering later this summer. And while they’re expected to look a bit different than the Concept 1 pictured here, they should — at the very least — feature the same transparent design and low-key branding.
