North Face Apex Flex GTX

For those trying to pick between a hard or soft shell for their spring hiking this year, North Face just made that decision a whole lot easier with the release of their new Apex Flex GTX.

The legendary outdoor apparel brand has teamed up with Gore-Tex to create what is essentially the ultimate soft shell. Like most outer layers of its class, the Apex Flex offers up a huge amount of mobility thanks to its forgiving fabric and cut. Whether rock climbing, or hiking through overgrown trails – this thing will work with you rather than against you. What really sets the jacket apart, however, is the built in waterproofing. The technology at the core of this jacket is the Weatherproof Gore-Tex 3L shell that offers wind protection, waterproofing, and breathability while also keeping all of the mobility and comfort you’d want out of a soft shell. The adjustable hood, pit-zip vents, and ultra soft knit interior provide some nice finishing touches. You can pick up one of these in a 8 different colors starting at $200. [Purchase]
