Nike Honors Andre Agassi’s Most Iconic Tennis Shoe With The Tech Challenge 20

Famously worn by long-haired tennis rebel, Andre Agassi, Nike’s Air Tech Challenge II — particularly in the “Hot Lava” colorway — are widely considered to be the quintessential tennis shoe of the late ‘80s early ‘90s era. And despite a cool 30 years having passed since Agassi wore them on the court, there ATC 2 remains a classic footwear icon today.

So, when Nike recently opted to unveil the latest iteration of its tennis-specific sneakers with the new NikeCourt Tech Challenge 20, the sportswear powerhouse has called upon Agassi’s famous kicks to help influence the new model’s design. Sporting a colorway based on the original Hot Lava ATC 2’s — including the classic “Nike Air” logo emblazoned on the heel — the new Tech Challenge 20 features a modified herringbone pattern that’s said to afford the wearer unparalleled traction, while the shoe’s Max Air unit allows for stellar cushioning and a ridiculously smooth transition from heel-to-toe. AN asymmetrical collar design provides robust ankle support, as well. The NikeCourt Tech Challenge 20 is scheduled for an official release on February 26, 2020, though pricing has yet to be announced.
