Famously worn by legendary race cars like the Porsche 917, McLaren M20 Can-Am and F1 GTR, and Ford GT40, the Gulf Oil paint scheme is unequivocally one of the most iconic and celebrated race liveries of all time. The significance of the paint job has allowed the Gulf livery to transcend the motorsport world and be embraced by other sectors including the streetwear and fashion spaces, as evidenced by Nike’s adopting of the colorway for its latest SB Dunk Low release.
Taking the classic Gulf powder blue, Marigold orange, and black-outlined colorway, Nike has applied the famous livery to its fan-favorite low-top skate shoe. The Nike SB Dunk Low “Gulf” features blue suede uppers, orange soles, a white Swoosh logo, and black laces, outlining, and Nike logos. Interestingly, the #58 race number adorning the shoe never actually appeared on an official Gulf-liveried racer, though it nonetheless adds an additional dash of motorsport flavor to the equation. The soles and interior of the shoe have also been treated to a blue color juxtaposed by orange Nike SB and ZOOM AIR branding. Priced at $100, the Nike SB Dunk Low “Gulf” is scheduled for a release tomorrow on Nike’s web store on February 27, 2021.
