Nike is marking this year’s Air Max Day a little early by unveiling the Air Max Pre-Day, a new sneaker that combines the 1970s looks of the first Nike Air sneakers with a brand new presentation of Air Max technology.
The Nike Air Max Pre-Day has a design that is reminiscent of the Air Tailwind, an iconic running shoe from the late ‘70s that was the first Nike sneaker to feature Air-Sole cushioning technology. But the silhouette is where the retro flavor ends. For the rest of the Air Max Pre-Day, Nike is looking to the future, starting with an Air Max heel unit that is exposed between the midsole and the outsole for the first time. Not only does this give the shoe an original look, but Nike says the setup also provides a unique feel and a more pronounced soft bounce with each stride. The shoes are also comprised of at least 20% recycled material by weight, hinting at the company’s future sustainability goals. Available in a future-ready “Liquid Lime” colorway, the Air Max Pre-Day will be available at Nike’s SNKRS site on March 26.
