Being a huge fan of hip hop, New York City based artist Jay Shells embarked upon a creative project he likes to call ‘Rap Quotes.’

Shells took lines from 30 hip hop songs that referenced areas of New York City, and basically went on a scavenger hunt to find the specific location referenced in the song. For instance in Dipset’s ‘Bout It Bout Part III’ from the Diplomatic Immunity album, Cam’ron raps, “I represent where them killers at 145th and Broadway you get your head cracked.” Shells would head to that specific location and hang a street sign with the lyrics displayed onto a city pole. The quotes are from some of hip hop’s greatest including Big L, Nas, Jay-Z and more. Check out the video below to learn more about the project.
