With the supply of medical devices and accessories dwindling, it’s no secret that the world’s most important sector is in dire need of supporters. Luckily, amidst the COVID-19 crisis’ latest developments, a handful of industrial design’s leading companies have come forward to offer humanitarian aid — including New Balance, whose domestic manufacturing resources and industrial R&D expertise will prove invaluable in the days to come.
To ensure that medical professionals are protected during their inevitable exposure to the virus’s frontline, New Balance has joined with a handful of its most trusted associates to create and mass produce face masks, gowns, foot coverings, and other items — all of which will ideally meet FDA requirements. Over 100,000 units a week are slated for production at both of the brand’s Lawrence, MA, and Norridgewock, ME factories, utilizing the expertise of its American workers and supporting the job market in each respective area. New Balance has also stated that virtually all of its newly-produced medical items will be made available via donation or “break-even” pricing, suggesting that commercial practices have been pushed to the wayside due to extraordinary circumstances.
