Since the company’s inception in 2002, NEMO Equipment has been crowned with more than 70 significant design awards in the outdoor gear space. And the New Hampshire-based outfit’s latest envelope-pushing offering is the Flyer, a self-inflating baffled sleeping pad.
The concept behind the Flyer was to offer a sleeping pad for backpackers with the thickness of an air-pad coupled with the comfort of a foam pad, all while keeping weight to a minimum. This was achieved by utilizing a new open-cell foam and manufacturing technique that uses 60% less material though still bolsters thickness when inflated by nearly 300% thanks to a unique structural setup and the self-inflating pad using a 3D-sculpting system. Backed by a NEMO Lifetime Warranty, the Flyer uses a 20D PU Polyester fabric and NEMO’s proprietary zero-profile micro-adjustable valve. Weighing less than 1.5lbs (for the 72” X 20” X 2” size), the Flyer breaks down/rolls up to an extremely compact 10” x 6.5” form. The pricing for NEMO’s Flyer self-inflating baffled air-pad — which recently won an Outdoor Retailer Innovation Award — starts at $120 for the “Regular” size and goes up to $140 for the “Long Wide” size.
