If you’re even the slightest bit interested in photography, there’s a good chance you’re familiar with National Geographic’s annual photo contest. Well it’s that time of year again, and we’ve got a handful of captivating images to drool over as we head into the official deadline for the contest.

National Geographic has been educating the general public since its 1888 inception (126 years ago). Back in 2006, the publication began holding an international photography competition with over eighteen countries participating all around the world. The contest cutoff date is Halloween this year (October 31, 2014), and this is our first look at some of the entries for the visual spectacle. In addition to winning $10,000,  the contest winner will also be awarded the opportunity to attend National Geographic’s headquarters to participate in its yearly photography seminar. Check out some of our favorites below and enter the contest here.
