MAPA’s ‘MSP’ Is A Modular Studio Made For Backyards Or The Backcountry

Tiny homes and modular construction projects have seen a drastic increase in popularity over the past few years, and with each new iteration, the genre is taking on new, dynamic challenges. MAPA, an architectural studio with branches in Uruguay, Brazil, and the United States, has been around since the very beginning of the off-grid movement’s rise to prominence. Their latest project, known simply as “MSP,” is a subtle step in the right direction — emphasizing versatility, intuitive construction, and natural immersion.

Where many of today’s contemporary tiny homes are conceptualized and built as full-fledged living structures, the MSP dwelling has decided to take a more isolated approach. From the start, the small space adopts a more minimized layout than its predecessors, making it the perfect customizable choice for either a single individual or an efficient couple. While MSP can take on a plethora of different roles, MAPA has stated that it’s best used to augment your traditional living area, citing its ability to act as a separate studio, meditation room, personal library, or sauna. In effect, it bridges the gap between a more primitive retreat and the contemporary examples that become so abundant in recent years. Head to MAPA’s website to learn more about the modular structure.
