Malaysia-based MING has quickly risen through the ranks since its 2017 inception to become one of the most acclaimed and popular microbrands on the market, and now the company is releasing its first-ever collaborative effort with the 17.09 MING x Massena LAB limited edition watch.
The joint venture between MING and famed watchmaker/modifier Massena LAB sees MING’s entry-level model, the 17.09, get a very interesting makeover. The brainchild of respective brand founders and longtime friends Ming Thein and William Massena, the new watch was inspired by the honeycomb dials on some vintage Rolexes. The result is a unique honeycomb dial with a pleasing 3D effect that is only heightened by MING’s trademark floating lumed indices that are etched on the underside of the sapphire crystal. The caseback also features an engraved honeycomb pattern, while the case’s flared lugs and Schwarz-Etienne 300.M1 automatic movement with its travel-friendly independently-adjustable hour hand should be familiar to fans of the 17.09. The watch comes in two limited references: a black version will see 150 units for $2,595, while the even more striking (and fitting) honey variant is limited to just 50 pieces at $2,795. Both go on sale May 20 at 10:30 am EST at Massena’s website, and like all MINGs, they’ll likely sell out in minutes.
