Microsoft Thoroughly Revolutionizes AR/VR Conferencing With Its ‘Mesh’ Program

As part of the American multinational technology company’s Ignite 2021 campaign, Microsoft has just unveiled what is almost certainly the most profound breakthrough and leap forward in the augmented reality and virtual conferencing space with the debut of its game-changing Microsoft Mesh program.

Pairing with a state-of-the-art VR/AR headset, Microsoft Mesh is a mixed reality platform in which individuals located in different geographical areas can collectively collaborate on projects via cutting-edge mixed reality sessions that use full-size holographs. Rather than a simple video chat, Mesh creates a 3D map of the hosting space (or “Hanai portal”), as well as physical avatars for each team member in the session, allowing them to walk around the room, and see, hear, and communicate as if in the same physical location. Microsoft’s promo video for Mesh does a superb job of demonstrating the possibilities afforded by the new AR/VR offering, including team architecture projects, automotive design, air traffic control use, remote medical applications, and even traditional Japanese Kanji and calligraphy lessons.
