If you’re a discerning billionaire who’s concerned that the chauffeured cars of tomorrow won’t offer the same kind of opulence as today, don’t be. Mercedes-Maybach has debuted the Concept EQS all-electric SUV, and the future looks quite luxurious indeed.
Built as a near-production one-off concept, the Maybach Concept EQS offers a clear preview of what the first all-electric Maybach will look like. The SUV’s seamless, flowing exterior design hints at the next-gen tech underpinnings while still mixing in the brand’s signature traits, such as the Maybach grille, chrome trim, and two-tone paint. But since this is a Maybach we’re talking about here, the real story can be found in the interior, which has been crafted to exude a luxury-yacht feel. In the rear, you’ll find a High-End Rear Seat Entertainment System, a floating center console, and fashion-inspired door panels that are crafted in the style of premium furniture. Up front, the dash is enveloped by the massive MBUX Hyperscreen that first appeared on the EQS sedan, but with added Maybach-specific display styles and content. While Mercedes hasn’t revealed when the Maybach EQS could become a reality, the closely related Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV is slated to begin production in 2022.
