When Mercedes-Benz first announced their X-Class pickup truck, it was a much-needed breath of fresh air: an off-road-ready 4×4 with a bit of refined styling. But, as good as it was, it was only a matter of time before people started trying to improve upon it. Now, we may have reached the apex, as the folks at Carlex Design have unveiled their take on the X-Class, a monstrous truck they’re calling the EXY 6×6.
As you can tell from the renderings, this concept retains all the signature styling cues of the donor vehicle, but with a few very notable changes. For starters, they stretched it out and added another axle and two wheels — which also means they’ll have to include a new differential, driveshaft, and transfer case to boot. It also appears to be getting some beefed-up all-terrain tires, big new fender flares, and some serious stying and material upgrades to the tail end. Unfortunately, we’re only getting a look at the exterior. The good news? The concept isn’t just a ‘what if;’ they actually plan to build and release it in 2019. If that does come to fruition, we could be looking at the next overlord of overlanding.
