It appears the three-pointed star may, in fact, become one with the pickup truck this time next year. That’s right, Mercedes-Benz just unveiled a teaser of what could be their next big move in the world of off-road-friendly vehicles. It’s called the X-Class and will mark the first time a premium car manufacturer has broken into the market of mid-size pickups.
With exact details a bit scarce with this initial release, it is clear that the one-ton X-Class will feature a four-model series based upon the platform of Nissan’s NP300 Navara. It’ll also seat up to five people while holding onto that cherished and luxurious Mercedes look in conjunction with off-road prowess. In addition, we do know this ride will also feature a ladder-type frame, six-cylinder high torque diesel engine and permanent all-wheel drive for no brainer exploration off the asphalt. What is disappointing however is where Mercedes plans on making this truck available at the end of next year. And with a list including the Europe, Latin America, South Africa and Australia, it’s a shame the U.S was not mentioned. Oh well, sounds like a bit of traveling is in order if you ask us.
