Mercedes-Benz Future Bus

Leave it up to Mercedes-Benz to make a public bus look sexy and exciting. Given the eponymous ‘Future Bus’, this vehicle is much more than good looking; it is safer, more efficient, and better designed than just about any other form public transportation on the road today.

A natural extension of the same technology that Benz has used in their autonomously driving Actros trucks, this bus will be able to read traffic lights, recognize pedestrians, and skillfully avoid obstacles without the help of a driver. Along with outfitting this bus with cutting edge self-driving technology, the luxury marquee broke the mold with the bus’ interior by taking design queues from city squares and public parks. With such large windows and spacious seats, riding on the bus may be a substantial step towards making public transportation more appealing in large car-centric cities like L.A. or Atlanta. The Future Bus will be making its first journey on a portion of Europe’s longest Bus Rapid Transit road in the Netherlands where it’ll use a 299 horsepower OM 936 six cylinder engine coupled with its autonomous driving technology to complete its first real journey.
