Mercedes-Benz wants you to know they’re serious about electrification. Hot on the heels of the ultra-luxurious EQS sedan and 831-HP AMG GT 63 S E Performance, MB has introduced a vision for what the future electric G-Wagen will look like.
If you’re a fan of the G-Wagen’s iconic silhouette, fear not, as the Mercedes-Benz Concept EQG isn’t changing much in that department. The all-electric concept still looks like a G-Wagen, just one that came from the not-too-distant future. It has a bevy of LED accents, along with a light-up grille that features a massive LED 3D-effect star logo. The spare tire is located in a lockable box that can double as storage for a charging cable, bringing some extra substance to the style. Despite the G-Wagen’s reputation as an urban status symbol, it’s always been a capable off-roader, and that isn’t changing with the EQG. The concept’s ladder frame chassis with integrated batteries makes for a low center of gravity, while the four individually controllable electric motors, one at each wheel, offer supreme control over the vehicle’s performance. Benz is calling Concept EQG a “near-production study,” meaning the actual future electric G-Wagen will likely look a whole lot like this.
