Sicily-based Delux Motorcycles is made up to two Italians who love to ride and customize bikes on their terms. It’s one of the benefits of the island life. Well, that and boating and surfing on a regular basis. They both work separate jobs too, where Gabriele is the owner of a television studio and Massimo the owner of a traditional Sicilian restaurant. These are indeed their day jobs, and odds are from the look of this bike, they would certainly remain successful without them.
This bike, in particular, started out as an ’83 BMW R65 with only 25,000 miles on the speedo. They discovered the bike on a farm in the old country collecting dust so they quickly got to work to outfit this bike for the harsh outback terrain. Sicily hosts a dry and hot climate throughout the summer months, similar to that of its close neighbor, North Africa. So to give this bike the proper off-road aesthetic the two friends took great care in tuning up this R65.
The 60cm water pipe tank is clearly the most eye-catching modification to the bike, boasting a handsome patina. The boys at Delux also stripped down the bike a bit as well to reduce the overall weight while keeping the original chassis and engine block. Additional upgrades include an enhanced suspension, rebuilt shocks, a headlight from a ‘90s jeep, and a seat that was sourced from Bernardi. The final product is an amazing build that’s both industrial and ready to tackle the dusty Sicilian roads. [H/T: Pipeburn]
