Automotive purists everywhere are constantly decrying the inevitable march of all-electric powertrains. But the truth is, fossil fuels are dying off — probably swifter than you think. And while the folks at Lunaz Design are more than happy to help take those next steps forward, they also believe in the importance of preserving the past. That’s why they’re taking classic cars and converting them to electric power.
It’s a bold project made all the bolder by their first two projects: a Rolls-Royce Phantom V and a Jaguar XK120 — both widely considered to be amongst the most beautiful cars ever produced. To ensure they retain the spirit of these vehicles, they’ve meticulously disassembled them and modified only the necessary parts to bring them up to speed with an in-house electric motor, lithium-ion battery packs, sophisticated electronics, and even more modernized running gear to deal with the beefier power plants. They’ve also modernized other bits — like adding in WiFi integration, upgraded sound systems with touchscreen displays, and even Bluetooth compatibility — to help turn these icons into up-to-date daily drivers. The perfect blend of past and present, we can’t wait to see what Lunaz comes up with next.
