We first learned of LG’s bonkers rollable OLED TV prototype way back in 2018, and now the production version is finally being rolled out to customers in the U.S. — provided you’ve got the cash.
The LG Signature OLED R is the world’s first rollable TV, with a screen so thin and flexible it can literally be rolled up inside its sound system base, leaving you with just a compact and attractive Dolby Atmos soundbar when in “Zero View.” The TV can also be unrolled partially in “Line View,” a slim display offering a dashboard with basic information, smart speaker capabilities, and mood lighting. But the real magic happens in “Full View,” when an impossibly-thin 65” 4K TV rises to a height several times taller than its stylish home. The picture and sound quality are top-notch, but what you’re really paying for is the revolutionary novelty of the device’s design. And pay you will, a lot. LG hasn’t released pricing details for the TV yet, but the Korean version that went on sale last year costs upwards of $90,000 after converting to USD. LG is currently taking inquiries to purchase the OLED R from prospective American buyers, so make sure your finances are in order and give them a shout.
