We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: LEGO’s Ideas fan-driven forum is one of the best things the company has ever had a hand in, further evidenced by their latest project: a 2,079-piece retro typewriter that — believe it or not — is actually functional.
Officially going into production, this project was first envisioned by Ideas member Steve Guinness who was interested in creating a LEGO kit that had never been done before. And to say that he succeeded in spades is perhaps an understatement. On top of this kit looking spot-on like an old-school portable typewriter, it also has functional keys, a moving carriage, and a platen roller that real paper can be fed into. Early access to this kit starts on June 16th for LEGO VIP members and July 1st for the rest of the world. The LEGO Typewriter is priced at $200.
