Now that May the 4th is almost with us, LEGO has kicked off its Star Wars Day event, which lasts from May 1st to May 7th. To start us off, we have a new entry into the diorama series with the Emperor’s Throne Room Diorama. Although it’s not as intricate as the X-Wing that was announced recently, the build makes up for it by depicting one of the most iconic scenes from Return of the Jedi, who’s celebrating its 40th birthday.

The 807-piece set contains three mini-figures for Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, and Emperor Palpatine and measures just over 8 inches wide. The diorama depicts the legendary lightsaber duel between Luke and Vader which arguably the whole original trilogy was leading up to. Much like the other Star Wars dioramas, it has the same base with two printed plates on the center, one of them being Luke’s classic quote from Return of the Jedi reading, “I am a Jedi, like my father before me.”, and an extra one marking the 40th anniversary of the film. The jumper plates on the bottom and top of the platforms allow builders to recreate the fight or have Luke join the dark side for a change. Below the archway sits Palpatine’s throne, which can swivel between the action and the window. Underneath the build is a hidden compartment with lightning pieces for Palpatine, so different parts of the movie can be recreated as well.

Since dioramas were added to the lineup, fans have had the opportunity to capture epic scenes and setpieces that may have been lacking in previous releases. LEGO has included this scene before in a few Star Wars sets, but never in a complete build like this with more mini figures and play features. Alongside the Endor Diorama, which also dropped today, LEGO continues to improve upon its selection of memorable moments from the Star Wars movies.

The LEGO Star Wars Emperor’s Throne Room Diorama was released on May 1st and is available for $99.99.
