LEGO SR-71 Blackbird

Originally unleashed in the 1960s, the Lockheed-built SR-71 Blackbird was a U.S. Air Force strategic reconnaissance aircraft – a spy plane, for short – that remains one of the most iconic jets ever created. In fact, it’s still heralded as one of the coolest pieces of military tech ever to have been built. And now it has finally been immortalized in plastic building bricks courtesy of Jonah T Padberg, AKA Plane Bricks.

Though not an official LEGO set, this SR-71 Blackbird is one of the most comprehensively detailed military-inspired models we’ve seen in recent times (second only, perhaps, to the NASA Space Shuttle kit). In fact, on top of nailing the overall appearance, this model also includes folding landing gear and tilting wing flaps. We can only hope LEGO has their eyes on this fan-made jet and boxes it up as an official release sometime soon.
