With air-cooled 911 prices ever on the rise, it’s become all but impossible to buy one of such beauties for anything less than a ludicrous sum — to the point that most of us common Porsche enthusiasts will likely never get to drive our dream ride. As with any unrealized automotive dream, it’s a tough pill to swallow.
Luckily LEGO has just the offering to stave off the disappointment: a two-in-one Porsche 911. Based on the German automaker’s iconic cars from the late ’70s and early ’80s, the set lets builders choose their own destiny, with the option to build either a 911 Turbo or a 911 Targa using the same 1,458 pieces. In each case, LEGO has paid careful attention to the details, recreating such iconic design elements as the former’s whale-tail spoiler and the latter’s open-roof drop-top. And that’s not all — elsewhere you’ll find plenty of miniaturized automobilia, including a rear-mounted flat-six, sports seats in period-correct orange and nougat, as well as a functional steering column and gearshift. But the best part is that first buyers will receive a limited-edition LEGO Porsche owners pack complete with a card wallet and art prints. It’ll be available on March 1st for $150.
