Here’s something you don’t see every day – a Lamborghini LM002 outfitted for the most famous and competitive rally of all time, the Paris-Dakar. Here, Mario Mannucci would navigate legendary driver Sandro Munari along the way from fashionable streets to backcountry desert tracks.

The year was 1988, and in order to make this happen, the LM002 needed quite a bit of work done. Initially, the V12 engine was boosted from 455 to 600 HP and was trimmed of any fat that would weigh the ride down come rally time. A roll bar, five-point safety belts, and an advanced navigation system for the time were introduced to the ride as well. New plastic windows were mounted, as was a more spacious fuel tank of obvious reasons, and the suspension and braking system were both redesigned to take a beating. Two racing seats also replaced the stock four-seater setup. Unfortunately, she had to be withdrawn just a few short miles from the finish line in Greece but nevertheless was a fruitful and rugged ride for her time.
